Maui Woman Completes 750 Mile “holoHI” Journey

A Maui woman is scheduled to conclude a 31-day trek today around six islands as part of her mission to launch a school-based conservation initiative.

Lindy Shapiro, an author, educator and avid runner, wraps up her 750 mile journey, named holoHI on Maui today.

During her trek, Shapiro stopped at 20 schools across the state where she launched the Bottles for Change program, teaching students about the effects of plastic on the environment and providing them with ways to help reduce their plastic footprint.

The project’s ultimate goal aims to build an independent, leadership academy on the North Shore of Maui focused on integrated arts and sciences.

A welcome home event will take place from 2:45 to 5 p.m. today at Pāʻia Bay.
