Maui Police Promote Hankins to Lieutenant

The Maui Police Department announced the promotion of William Hankins to the rank of Lieutenant. In his new capacity, Hankins will serve as commander of the Hāna District in East Maui.

The 24 year veteran of the Maui Police Department most recently served as supervisor of the Traffic Section’s Vehicle Homicide Unit.

Hankins was also one of the original members of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team.

Over the years, Hankins has worked in the Hāna, Kīhei, Lahaina and Wailuku  patrol divisions, the Traffic Section OUI Task Force, and the Vehicle Homicide Unit.

Hankins also successfully completed numerous courses from the Institute of Police Technology and Management in Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation and Scene Reconstruction.

His promotion took effect on Feb. 16, 2015.

Hankins is married to his wife Shantell and they have two sons Cody and Dylan.
