Maui Jim sunglasses has partnered with the Association of Tennis Professionals men’s tennis circuit, supplying official eyewear for the ATP World Tour. The three-year agreement also provides Maui Jim eyewear for the season finale Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The agreement gives Maui Jim global marketing rights as well as an on-site presence at tournaments throughout the season, and will expand the local shade company’s global reach to tennis fans.

“We are delighted to have joined forces with ATP as tennis is such a great fit for Maui Jim,” said Martijn van Eerde, marketing director for Europe. “For us this is a milestone, an expansion of Maui Jim’s tennis program and our involvement with the tennis community.  Over the years, many players, coaches and line judges have discovered the benefits of our PolarizedPlus2 lens technology to improve their views of the game. This partnership with the ATP was the logical next step.”

Maui Jim’s sunglasses were chosen for their exceptional quality and protection from harmful sun rays. The local shades cut 100% of harmful UV rays and 99.9% of glare from above, below, and behind each lens. The patented lens technology also increases definition and depth perception, and comes in 112 varying styles of frames and lenses for men and women. Maui Jim’s eyewear have been recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective eyewear for UV protection.

“Maui Jim sunglasses offer unmatched comfort and protection when working in the sun,” said Laurent Delanney, commercial director of the ATP World Tour. “With 46 of our 62 tournaments played outdoors, the partnership will provide our ATP World Tour officials with helpful equipment to perform their duty at the highest level.”

Maui Jim was originally launched on the hotel pool decks of Maui when its main distribution center was in Lahaina. The brand was introduced through distributorships on the Mainland in 1988 by owner Bill Capps, with its base in Northern California.

The UV-ray-blocking, polarized sunglasses have been manufactured in Peoria, Illinois, since 1996 and are marketed worldwide. Maui Jim also produces prescription lenses for their designs, including bifocal lenses.

Dan Moreland, Jim Stroesser, Chuck Ponthier and Kelly Gough pioneered the technical sunglasses company in America. The name “Maui Jim” came from the name of a pet harlequin macaw belonging to one of the founders and also serves as the company’s mascot.

In 1999, Maui Jim made Forbes Magazine’s list of “100 Things Worth Every Penny.”
