Night of Storytelling: ‘Ghosts & Legends in Hawaiʻi’

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will present an evening of mystery and enchantment with Native Hawaiian storyteller Lopaka Kapanui at the McCoy Studio Theater on Friday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Kapanui, described as one of Hawaiʻi’s leading storytellers, captures his audiences with Hawaiian ghost stories as well as his historical knowledge of Hawaiʻi, intertwining the normal with the paranormal. During his performance, he will explore the question “Are Hawaiʻi’s gods and ghosts a thing of the past, or do they still exist today?”
The late Glen Grant mentored Kapanui in the art of storytelling, holding him to a high standard for his cultural connection with the tales.
Kapanui was inspired by Grant after going on a ghost tour with the famed historian and author of “Obake Files” and the “Chicken Skin” ghost story series.
