No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 6+ Indonesia Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a preliminary magnitude 6.6 earthquake reported at 12:12 p.m. HST on Tuesday, March 17, in Halmahera, Indonesia, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The US Geological Survey reports that the quake was located: 83 miles NW of Kota Ternate, Indonesia; 85 miles NW of Ternate, Indonesia; 94 miles E of Bitung, Indonesia; 103 miles W of Tobelo, Indonesia; and 673 miles SW of Koror Town, Palau.
