Kaiser Permanente today announced its plans to provide 24/7 inpatient pediatric care to patients at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Starting in June, five pediatricians will provide round-the-clock care to the majority of youth patients on Maui, regardless of their medical insurance coverage, in a new pediatric hospital contract with MMMC.

As a result, most children admitted to MMMC starting June 15, 2015 will be cared for by a Kaiser Permanente physician, regardless of their medical insurance coverage.

Nearly 100 physicians currently practice at Kaiser Permanente’s Maui locations, with many administering primary or specialty care at Maui Memorial Medical Center .

Representatives say Kaiser already provides health care for more than a third of the island population.

“This new arrangement for pediatric and neonatal hospital coverage is a great example of our continued commitment to partnering with Maui Memorial Medical Center,” said David Ulin, MD, pediatrician and Physician-in-Charge at Kaiser Permanente Maui.

“We have nearly a hundred physicians and providers on the island, many of whom already administer primary or specialty care at Maui Memorial. We feel privileged to have the opportunity to care for more of Maui’s keiki when they’re in the hospital, and we look forward to helping them heal and thrive,” he said in a press release statement.
