Executive Director of Maui Tomorrow to Step Down

After eight years at the helm, Maui Tomorrow Executive Director Irene Bowie is stepping away from the post.

In an announcement on Tuesday night, Bowie explained that the time has come for her to “personally move on to new adventures and challenges.”

She expressed confidence that the organization will continue to make a difference in mounting challenges against such issues as climate change, increased development, and a growing population.

In an email communication announcing her plans, Bowie said, “I have felt deeply privileged to serve as Maui Tomorrow’s executive director for the past eight years and I look back with much satisfaction on all that we’ve accomplished. I thank you, our supporters, for making this work possible and feel much gratitude and happiness in having gotten to know so many of you as we’ve worked on issues vital to the well being of Maui Nui.”

During her time at the agency, Bowie was involved with action against the Hawaiʻi Superferry operation, as well as advocating for the restoration of stream flow at Nā Wai ʻEha.

She said the organization would soon welcome a new executive director as the board continues work to uphold Hawaiʻi’s environmental and land use planning laws.
