Hyundai Tournament Raises $341K for Maui Charities in 2015

Hyundai Tournament of Champions Executive Director Nancy Cross distributed the tournament’s charitable funds to representatives of the tournament’s designated charities at the annual charity reception.

A total of $341,000 was raised for local Maui charities during the 2015 Hyundai Tournament of Champions event in Kapalua.

The funds raised bring to $5.3 million the total amount of funds donated to Maui community charities since the tournament’s move to Maui in 1999.

The six primary beneficiaries of the 2015 event include: the Boy Scouts of America – Maui County Council; the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center; Hale Makua Health Services; the J. Walter Cameron Center; Ka Lima O Maui; and the Lahainaluna High School Foundation.

As part of their relationship with the tournament, the designated beneficiaries assisted in promoting the event, offsetting costs and providing volunteers.

Tournament representatives say that in addition to the primary beneficiaries, a donation was also made to both the Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Association and Maui Junior Golf for their commitment to promoting and growing the game of golf among Hawaiʻi’s youth.

Several local non-profit organizations also benefited from the tournament through the Golf for Maui Charities program.  As part of the program, non-profit groups had the opportunity to promote the sale of tickets and receive 100% of the net proceeds. Participating charities included: Hale Makua Health Services; Chaplains for Christ International; Pāʻia Youth and Cultural Center; Maui Preparatory Academy; Maria Lanakila Church; Hale Kau Kau; Sacred Heart School; and Lahainaluna High School.

The tournament also made a charitable donation to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children via the tournament’s Hyundai Hope on Wheels program, a non-profit organization committed to helping kids fight cancer.

The 2016 Hyundai Tournament of Champions returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua in early January, 2016.
