UPDATE: Maui Police Body Worn Camera Pilot Program
By Maui Now Staff
Maui police released photos today of the new body-worn cameras being used as part of a month-long pilot program to test their feasibility for use by the department.
The Plans,Training, Research and Development Section began the study on Monday, April 6, 2015.
The results will be used to assist the Maui Police Department in making informed decisions about the implementation of this technology in the future.
For the study the Maui Police Department is using the Axon Body and Axon Flex Cameras by Taser International.
Maui police say use of these cameras is not indicative to any future use or decision to solely utilize these proprietary cameras by Taser International.
Taser’s AXON body is an on-body camera with a core uni-body; and Taser’s AXON Flex is a wearable camera system incorporating multiple mounting options, including use as an eye-wear mount.
