The Maui Department of Water Supply is warning customers of unauthorized phone calls from someone posing as a DWS representative. Department officials say the impersonator offered to assist with resolving delinquent water accounts by requesting Social Security numbers.

Authorities advise that when receiving a phone call from a DWS representative, in no circumstance, will the representative require a Social Security number.

“DWS representatives normally make collection visits in the morning and can be identified by their County of Maui identification badge, DWS uniform and County of Maui vehicle,” department officials said.

Water bill payment is also accepted at the County of Maui building lobby, the Service Center at Maui Mall, and the DWS baseyard in Lahaina, Hāna, and Molokaʻi.  The Service Center accepts checks only. More information is available on the second page of monthly water bills.

Customers who receive suspicious calls regarding water bill payment should contact the DWS Fiscal/Customer Service Office at (808) 270-7730 and the Maui Police Department.
