Brush Fire Burns 2 Acres on Hahana Road in Haʻikū

About two acres of brush and trash burned in a fire reported on Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2015, near Valley Isle Memorial Park, in Haʻikū.

According to department reports, the fire was reported at 4:56 p.m., was contained at 5:52 p.m., and was extinguished at 7:41 p.m.

Firefighters from Pāʻia arrived on scene at 5:12 to find the fire burning along Hahana Road, about 1⁄2 mile makai of Hāna Highway.

Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto said the fire burned in an area where people have been dumping household trash. He said there were no injuries or structures threatened, and the cause of the fire was undetermined.

Crews from Pāʻia, Makawao, and Kahului responded to the incident.
