An unscheduled burn charred one acre of sugar cane before being brought under control last night in Pāʻia.

The incident was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in a cane field near the old Lime Kiln site, just east of Baldwin Beach Park.

Fire crews from Pāʻia and Kahului kept the fire from spreading until crews from Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar company arrived on scene.

Authorities say the cause of the fire was undetermined and no injuries were reported.
