MPD Asks for Assistance in Alleged Sexual Assault Case

The Maui Police Department and Maui Crime Stoppers ask the public’s assistance in identifying a male who allegedly sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman on July 5 between 1 and 3:30 p.m. within the parking lot of  Mā‘alaea Harbor Village.

The woman was hitchhiking when she accepted a ride from Lahaina in a black pickup truck driven by a “local Hawaiiain/Tongan ”male known as “Sam.”

He was described as being 30 to 35 years old and 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the person in the surveillance photo can make an anonymous report to Maui Crime Stoppers by calling (808) 242-6966.

Neighbor Island residents can call toll-free at 1-888-242-6966. If the driver is located, contact Detective Samuel C. Gasmen at 875-5411 or at 268-5126 after hours.

Consider all wanted persons as dangerous. Do not approach, follow or take other action that
could put one in danger.
