The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, Aug. 18-22, 2015.
Department officials say the closure is necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of the County’s solid waste permit.
County officials say the landfill closures are expected to be reduced after the approval of a soon-to-be filled Equipment Operator position by the Council.
Representatives with the Solid Waste Division apologized for the inconvenience.
