Olaf Generates Advisory Level Swell

A High Surf Advisory is posted for the east facing shores of Maui through 6 p.m. Saturday as Olaf brings hazardous surf to these shorelines. Waves are expected to build to 8 to 12 foot faces.
A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the Pailolo and ʻAlenuihāhā channels as well as Māʻalaea Bay through 6 a.m. Thursday. East to northeast winds up to 25 knots are forecast along with seas up to 10 feet.

Maui Surf Forecast
North: Wave heights are expected chest/head high today. Waves could get up to overhead at the best exposures especially early in the day. Olaf swell is expected to build for east exposures, mainly for Hana area. Wave heights could get up to overhead or more as the swell builds today.
West: Wave heights waist/chest high are expected today. The best exposures could get a bit bigger on the sets. Spots shadowed by other islands will be smaller.
South: The south-southwest is expected to bring waist/chest high waves today. The best breaks could be a bit bigger on the sets.
Tropical swell is expected for the north and east shores of the Big Island, generated by hurricane Olaf. A warning is in effect at this time with dangerous surf conditions expected through Saturday. The swell is expected to peak Thursday and Friday.
A south swell will be on the rise tonight and Thursday, likely bringing surf to advisory levels along south facing shores Thursday night through Saturday.
Small northwest swells will continue to slowly subside tonight and Thursday.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
