The Kiwanis Club of Kahului will sponsor its 11th annual Shop With a Cop event this Sunday, Dec. 6 at 6 a.m. at the Big Kmart in Kahului.

In partnership with the Maui Police Department, Kmart, and the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, 50 kids in need will receive a $100 shopping spree at Kmart, and will be able to shop to their heart’s content accompanied by a Maui police officer.

Participating keiki are identified by the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, which works to help abused and neglected children in Maui County. Santa will also be on hand to share holiday cheer with the children.

“Shop With a Cop is one of the best Kiwanis events of the year,” said Kiwanis Club of Kahului member Bruce McDonald in an event announcement. “Our club is honored to sponsor this special program each year – I cherish being able to help such a fragile population right here in our own community,” said McDonald.

The Kiwanis Club of Kahului was founded in 1959 and is comprised of a group of individuals dedicated to serving the youth in our community. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
