High Surf Advisory Posted, Swell Shifting Today

Alerts

A High Surf Advisory is posted for the north & west facing shores of Molokai and the north shore of Maui through 6 p.m. Thursday. Surf along north facing shores is expected to be 12 to 18 feet. West shores are expected to get up to 8 to 14 feet.

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Maui County waters and channels through 6 p.m. Thursday for winds up to 25 knots and seas up to 12 feet.

North: Wave heights are expected to be double to triple overhead today.

West: Wave heights about waist/head high today with the best breaks getting up to overhead on the sets. Spots farther to the south are much smaller.

South: Wave heights under knee high today. Spots shadowed by other islands will be flat.

Screen Shot 2015-12-09 at 8.37.14 PMOur current west-northwest swell is expected to continue fading today. This swell will shift to a more northwesterly direction today but still bring good size to Maui County’s best exposures. Friday swell trends more north-northwest.

Our current south-southwest is down to traces today.

Trade swell is rebuilding for the second half of the week as winds pick up in strength.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
