Rough Riders Visit Schools and Service Agencies
The Rough Riders—Henry Kapono, Brother Noland and John Cruz—spent Thursday, Jan. 7, visiting schools and social service agencies as part of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Artists in the Community program.
The appearances yesterday preceded tonight’s Rough Riders’ concert in the MACC’s Castle Theater.
The schedule included Baldwin High School, Seabury Hall, Aloha House and the Hale A Ke Ola Resource Center. At Baldwin High, they appeared before a group of guitar and Hawaiian language students. At Seabury Hall, they met with a music and Hawaiian language students.
The MACC’s visiting artists program has been an ongoing commitment to the Maui County community, including Hāna, Lāna‘i and Moloka‘i.
Past participating artists have included Jake Shimabakuro; classical musician and Maui native Kurt Muroki, who held a concert last night at The MACC; and many others, including Al Jarreau, hip-hop artist Dahlak Brathwaite, Ben Vereen, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the Mark Morris Dance Company, Bandaloop and many others.
