Maui Crime, Jan. 3–9: Burglaries, Break-Ins, Thefts

Maui police are seeking the public’s help in locating the individual depicted in the photo for questioning in the theft of a vehicle on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 12:46 p.m. from 3900 Wailea Alanui Drive at the Four Seasons Wailea. The vehicle is described as a white 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL450, license LEP869.

Maui police responded to 16 burglaries, five vehicle thefts, and 18 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period, between Jan. 3 to 9, 2016.

Of the five vehicle thefts, one of the vehicles has since been recovered.  The incidents were reported in Wailea, Kīhei and Makawao.  The Maui Police Department has also initiated an investigation into a stolen SUV that was released by valet attendants to an unauthorized driver at a hotel in Wailea.

Burglary incidents were up to 16 from the 11 incidents reported the week before. The greatest number of burglaries reported were Wailuku where five incidents were reported over seven days.

Vehicle break-ins were up slightly to 18, up from the 17 incidents reported the week before.  The greatest number was in Kahului with six incidents reported at the location.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 6, 8 a.m.:  Wahine Pio Ave at Keōpūolani Park, non-residential, forced entry.
  • Friday, Jan. 8, 11:09 a.m.:  600 block of Kaimana St, residential, forced entry.


  • Sunday, Jan. 3, 8:21 a.m.:  2525 Kāʻanapali Pkwy at the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel, residential, unlawful entry.
  • Sunday, Jan. 3, 7:42 p.m.:  Nohea Kai Dr at the Hyatt Regency, residential, unlawful entry.
  • Thursday, Jan. 7, 1:50 a.m.: 130 Kai Malina Pkwy at Honua Kai Resort & Spa, non-residential, forced entry.


  • Monday, Jan. 4, 1:33 a.m.: 400 block of Ahakea St, residential, unlawful entry.


  • Friday, Jan. 8, 7:09 a.m.:  200 Halewaiū Rd at the Waiehu Golf Course, non-residential, forced entry.


  • Saturday, Jan. 9, 5:53 p.m.:  E Waikō Rd, residential, unlawful entry.


  • Monday, Jan. 4, 6:54 a.m.:  250 S High St at Development Services Administration office, non-residential, forced entry.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 5, 7:35 a.m.:  ʻĪao Valley State Park, parking toll booth, non-residential, forced entry.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2:26 a.m.:  900 Eha St at Hot Spot Video, non-residential, unlawful entry.
  • Thursday, Jan. 7, 1:24 p.m.:  1200 block of Piʻihana Rd, non-residential, attempted burglary.

  • Friday, Jan. 8, 12:16 p.m.:  Haneoʻo Rd at Kokī Beach Park.  Silver 2015 GMC Terrain, unauthorized entry.
  • Saturday, Jan. 9, 3:59 p.m.:  Haneoʻo Rd at Hāmoa Beach Park.  Silver 2006 Scion XB, unauthorized entry and theft.
