Police, Fire, Ambulance Respond to Kū‘au Crash
An apparent two-car accident occurred on Hāna in front of a Kū‘au residence at approximately 5 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Maui Now received information and a photo from one of the residents of the property at approximately 5:30 p.m. The resident said the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Kū‘au resident Craig Richter said he believes one of the vehicles involved is a Toyota SUV and the other (in the photo) is possibly a Honda.
“I went home today down Kokomo to avoid Sprecklesville traffic,” said Richter, one of the residents. “At Haikū town center, two police cars zoomed by, sirens blaring. As I got to Ho‘okipa, which usually has little traffic this time of day, traffic was backed up.”
Richter added, “I assumed they were responding to an accident, but it never crossed my mind it was at our gate!
Richter said his vacation rental guests arrived before he did, just as police cars, ambulances and fire trucks responded to the accident.
More information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
