Underwater Proposal Amid Sharks at Maui Ocean Center
A couple visiting Maui from Utah got engaged during a surprise dive at the Maui Ocean Center’s Shark Dive Maui® aquarium in Māʻalaea last Monday, Jan. 18, 2016. Joshua popped the question during an underwater proposal to Brandy amid large stingrays, tropical fish, and over 20 sharks.
Maui Ocean Center representatives say Brandy is an avid shark enthusiast and had no idea that she would be diving with sharks that day, nor that Joshua would ask her to marry him. Among a crowd of six different species of sharks and an audience of Aquarium guests, Joshua popped the question with a sign that read “Brandy Diane Percifield, Will you marry me?” Brandy said “Yes!”
Maui Ocean Center representatives say this was the first time in Shark Dive Maui®’s history where both divers were inside the Open Ocean exhibit together during their proposal. In previous engagements, the diver would propose from within the exhibit to their partner viewing through the exhibit’s glass.
Joshua arranged the dive with the Aquarium’s Shark Dive Maui® program, the island’s only shark diving activity.
Using footage compiled by Aquarium staff and the newly engaged couple, Joshua has recently announced their engagement to family and friends.
