NW Swell Prompts High Surf Warning

A High Surf Warning is posted for the north and west shores of Molokai and the north shore of Maui through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
A Gale Warning is in effect for all off shore Hawaiian waters.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday for all Maui County waters except Māʻalaea Bay.

Maui Surf Forecast
North: Most spots are washed out today. Deep water breaks like Pe’ahi “Jaws” could see sets upwards of 25 to 35 foot faces.
West: Wrap from the northwest swell affecting some western shores today. Spots with the exposure are mostly washed out but could get up to 25 to 35 foot faces.
South: Wave heights are waist high or less. Spots with wrap could get up to knee/thigh high.
A rapidly building swell is expected to build and peak Monday for Maui County. This northwesterly source will be a combination of long-period and short-period wave energy.
Another large NW swell is expected Wednesday through Thursday, which will be from a more distant source. For now, the swell is expected to build Wednesday night and peak through the day Thursday before gradually fading Friday through Saturday. Warning level surf is expected with this round of swell as well.
A small southwest swell is expected to show Thursday through Saturday. Another small bump could fill in the first week of March as well.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
