Maui Nui Botanical Gardens will host a Cordage Making Workshop on Saturday, July 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Workshop participants will explore fibers from various native plants, and learn a variety of techniques for making rope with Lisa Schattenburg-Raymond and Lei Ishikawa.

The craft of making cordage to bind materials together was a crucial survival skill in ancient Hawai‘i. Everything from canoe building to home construction relied on this knowledge.

Reservations are required and a workshop fee applies.

Call 249-2798 or email [email protected] for details.
