Now OPEN: 3rd Landslide in 5 Days Forces Closure of Hana Hwy, Again

The Hāna Highway (360) is now OPEN in both directions as of 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016.

State crews have since conclude removal of debris associated with a landslide at Mile 16 near the Keʻanae Arboretum.

At around 10:30 p.m., police opened one lane of traffic in the area as debris removal continued.

The four hour closure was the third extended closure of the highway in the past five days.

Earlier in the day, the Hāna Highway was closed for 7.5 hours while state crews worked to clear mud, trees and debris from the road following a landslide in Kailua between Mile 6 and 7 reported at 6:30 a.m.

On Sunday, the road was closed for 12 hours because of a landslide at Wailua between Mile 19 and 20.

For the third time in the past five days, the Hāna Highway (360) is closed again due to a landslide.

The latest closure went into effect at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016, and is in the area of Mile 16 near the Keʻanae Arboretum.

Maui police say the road is closed to traffic in both directions.

Crews from the State Highways Division are responding to clear the roadway.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route until further notice.
