Project Learning Tree Workshop for Maui’s Secondary Educators

The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife invites Maui’s secondary educators to participate in a Hawai’i Project Learning Tree teacher workshop.

The interactive workshop will take place at the Hawaiian Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kīhei on Saturday Aug. 20, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Project Learning Tree is an international, award-winning environmental education program for children in grades Pre-K through twelfth grade. It incorporates environmental education into subject areas such as math, language arts, science and social studies.

This workshop will focus on the “Forests of the World” and “Focus on Forests” modules, with ties to local curriculum and links to NGSS and Common Core Standards. This workshop will also host guest speakers to discuss the workshop theme of Hawaiian forests and their current threats, such as Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death.

Guest speakers from local conservation organizations will also present and engage with participant’s about these important issues.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive both modules which include curriculum activities and lessons to take back to their classrooms.

A light lunch and refreshments will also be provided.

The workshop is free, however there is a $20 fee to register which is refundable upon completion of the workshop.
