79 Animals Adopted in “Clear the Shelter” Event
The Maui Humane Society adopted out 79 animals during a five-day “Clear the Shelter” event as the organization makes way for dog kennel renovations scheduled for Aug. 3-22, 2016. Organization leaders say 26 dogs, 38 cats, 2 roosters, 2 rabbits, 3 turtles, 7 guinea pigs and a bird went to new families.
During renovations, the shelter will be open for normal business; however anyone with a stray or owner surrender is asked to call the shelter FIRST as there is limited space and all dogs will be going into foster care during construction.
If you are interested in adopting a dog between August 3-22, please visit the MHS website to see all of the adoptable dogs. If you are interested in a specific dog, call the shelter to set up a meet and greet. MHS will also be holding two off-site adoption events at Petco in Kahului. These events will be held Saturday, Aug. 6 and Saturday, Aug. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Not all adoptable dogs featured on the website will be at the Petco events.
MHS is also asking the community for their help when it comes to bringing dogs to the shelter, including strays and owner surrenders. Space at the shelter will be extremely limited and because there are a limited number of foster homes available, these spots must be reserved for animals that have nowhere else to go.
Maui Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, serving the community for over 60 years and is Maui’s only open admission shelter.
