The Maui Civil Defense Agency will host Community Emergency Response Team training classes throughout August and September, in Kahului.

CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. Volunteers will be trained in basic disaster response skills; such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

CERT volunteers will use their training learned from the classroom and from exercises to assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available for help.

Volunteers are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness and other community projects.
