Elias D. Corpuz, Sr., 85, of Lahaina, Maui, passed away on August 5, 2016, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on July 20, 1931, In Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 2 p.m., at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Haiku.Elias was a retired Luna at Pioneer Mill. He was a humble, hardworking man who enjoyed fishing, yardwork, and spending time with his family. Elias was predeceased by his wife, Getrodes P. Rita J. Lalim, 69 of Kahului, passed away on July 31, 2016 at her residence under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on April 20, 1947 in Ho’olehua, Molokai.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului, services will begin at 11 a.m. Family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her husband, Edward F. Lalim Sr.; sons, Edward F. Lalim Jr. “Peanut”, and Joseph Steven Kalani Lalim; sister, Ionia (Melvin) Spencer; close friend, Nicole Moana-Marie Mendes; and family pet, “Snoopy” Lalim.

December 19, 1918 – July 30, 2016

Lucia Figueroa Salomon, 97, of Kahului, passed away on July 30, 2016, at her home under the care of Islands Hospice. She was born on December 19, 1918, on Kauai.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary; service will begin at 11:00 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Haiku.

Helen Lin Heong Akiona Nakanelua, 104, of Haiku, passed away on July 26, 2016, at Kula Hospital, Kula, Maui. She was born on September 17, 1911, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Helen was a retired & devoted Taro Farmer.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku; mass will begin at 8 p.m. A 2nd day visitation will also be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Norman’s Mortuary; service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow, 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku. A luncheon will follow service at Norman’s Mortuary.

Pre-deceased by husband, Paul Nakanelua Sr.; son, Paul (Bobby) Nakanelua Jr., Hansel (Betty) Nakanelua and daughter Noe Lake; Parents, Hong Yong & Eunice Lilinoe Ching; Survived by daughters, Lauae (Helen) Nakanelua, Lynnette (Gene-deceased) Smith, Rachel (Myra) DeSilva- (Darrell-deceased). Clifford Augustine Pimentel
May 23, 1934 – July 25, 2016

Clifford Augustine “Sabong” Pimentel, 82, of Haiku, passed away on July 25, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on May 23, 1934 in Puunene, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Christ the King Church in Kahului, Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. and burial will follow at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery at 1 p.m.

Clifford retired from Maui Land & Pineapple where he worked as a Mechanic and boiler man in the bi-product department.

His hobbies were, raising game birds, fishing, hunting, and raising his goats. He also enjoyed playing baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clarita Ebanez Pimentel; son, Baron M. Pimentel; daughter, Karen (Tony) Vierra; hanai son, Alvin Kalaau; sisters, Evelyn (John) Sardinha, and Harriet Pimentel; grandchildren, Craig, Kaysha, and Tytus Vierra; great-grandson, Matthew Pagan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his pet dog, Kileki.

Melvin “Inong” Bautista Santos
September 30, 1991 – July 25, 2016

Melvin “Inong” Bautista Santos, 24, of Kahului, passed away on July 25, 2016. He was born on September 30, 1991, in Pedro L. Quines, Tarlac, Philippines. Melvin had a passion for cooking and was a chef at the Wow Wee Maui’s Kava Bar and Grill in Kahului.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., (service will begin at 11 a.m.) at Norman’s Mortuary. Burial to follow at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku.For many years, Roger was a dedicated and admirable employee of Los Posas Country Club. He was devoted to fishing, enjoyed cooking, traveling and golfing with friends. Roger was always there to help others out, and he loved spending time with family & friends and always making them laugh.He is preceded in death by his father, Constantino A. Mitsuyuki Nakao, 85 of Kula, Maui passed away on July 24, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1930 in Hilo, Hawaii. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Wailuku Shingon Mission; with service over urn to begin at 11:00 a.m.; burial to follow on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., located at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao.

Andrew R. Villanueva
June 28, 1936 – July 23, 2016

Andrew “Andy” R. Villanueva Sr., 80 of Kahului, Maui passed away on July 23, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on June 28, 1936 in Haiku, Maui.

He retired from being a Harvester Driver for Maui Land and Pineapple and later retired from Roberts Hawaii as a School Bus Driver. His greatest joy was spending time with his precious grandchildren Daniel, Kayla and Shayla and his passion for Fishing and Bowling with the Old Timers League.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2016 from 1pm to 6pm at Paukukalo Hawaiian Homes Community Center.

Jason H. Medeiros
September 25, 1949 – July 22, 2016

He retired from the Grand Wailea Resort as a waiter at the Humu Humu restaurant. Jason was also appointed Division Representative for the ILWU Local 142 on Maui. He also served on the Maui Liquor Adjudication Commission and the Maui Planning Commission and was an active member of the Democratic Party of Hawaii. Memorial services will be held at the Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 1:00pm. Please come and join us in celebrating his life at the ILWU Hall located at 896 Lower Main Street in Wailuku on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 12 noon. Jason is survived by his son, Jason Junior (J-Boy); brothers, Ralph Medeiros and Raymond “Mondokane” Medeiros of Kihei, Wallace (Agi) Medeiros Jr. of Las Vegas; step father, Ronald Okuda; fiancé, Devi Maria Theresia, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and his dog “Bali”. Joyce Masue Kajiura Apana, 86, of Kahului, passed away on July 21, 2016 in Kahului. She was born on October 20, 1929 in Honolulu.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 12 noon.

Inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery.

Joyce retired from Maui Scrap Metal Company (Apana Junkyard).

She is survived by her sons, Roger, Edward, Neil (Betsy Nakamura), and Mark (Sheila); daughter, Norine (Floyd) Miyazono; sisters, Kikuyo (Joe) Higa, and Shizue Shimana; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

John Cruz, known as “Chico”, 76, of Maui, died July 10, 2016.He was born to the late Louie and Mary Cruz in Oahu and grew up on Maui.He was self-employed.John is survived by Consuela Newton, daughter, and four grandchildren.
