    Previous Post:

We have reports of fire crews battling a brush fire in the Ukumehame area of West Maui.  Initial reports were received before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.

As of 9 a.m., West Maui motorists are being advised that a brushfire on the mauka side of Honoapiʻilani Highway in Ukumehame may force the closure of the highway if the blaze is not contained within the next hour.

Fire personnel say winds of up to 20 to 30 miles per hour are fanning fire, which was said to be near Ehehene Street.

A wind advisory is currently in effect for Maui County until 6 p.m.  The National Weather Service says sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected in some locations.

More details will be released as they become available.
