5,058 Lose Power: Outages Caused by Palm Fronds, Cable Fault

5,058 lose power in Makawao, Nāpili outages.

Update: 3:26 p.m. 12.16.16

Maui Electric crews restored power to customers in Makawao and Nāpili after an interruption in electrical service for about 30 minutes in the two separate incidents on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.

At about 11:26 a.m., approximately 3,690 customers in the Makawao area lost power due to a cable fault near Makawao Avenue. All customers had power restored by 11:53 a.m. The cause of the cable fault is being investigated.

Then around 12:53 p.m., about 1,368 customers in the Nāpili area experienced an outage when palm fronds came into contact with electrical lines along Papaua Road. All customers were brought back online by 1:19 p.m.

Electrical service has been restored to all customers in the Nāpili area as of 1:28 p.m. Company representatives thanked the public for their patience and understanding.  The cause of the outage is under investigation.

Maui Electric crews are en route to a power outage reported in the Nāpili area at around 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.

Maui Electric is working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.

12:06 P.M. December 16, 2016. Maui Electric restores power to all customers in Makawao.

Maui Electric Company would like to inform the public that the Makawao area is experiencing a power outage. Maui Electric is working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.
