After a combined eight hours of testimony and deliberations on Monday, the Maui County Council reached a unanimous decision on committee organization and membership.

The vote came as support for the alternative proposal offered by Council member Riki Hokama.

It was one of three resolutions introduced by Members Riki Hokama, Mike White and Kelly King to determine how the council would proceed with determining committee size structure and membership.

Hokama’s proposal sought to return the committee structure somewhat closer to what it was in the last council with minor changes and language suggestions.

Hokama’s proposal called for eight standing committees with half of the committees having nine members, and the other half made up of seven members.  Under the resolution, the committees and their membership included the following:

  • Budget and Finance Committee: Riki Hokama, Chair; Mike White, Vice-Chair; Alika Atay; Robert Carroll; Elle Cochran; Stacy Crivello; Don S. Guzman; Kelly T. King; and Yuki Lei K. Sugimura.
