The Maui debut of the Black Arm Band features a presentation of “dirtsong.” This production is a musical concert featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander songs performed in a dozen different languages by some of the region’s most talented vocalists and musicians.

The performance provides audiences a vibrant and powerful celebration of Australia’s indigenous music, cultures and languages all inspired by award-winning Australian author Alexis Wright.

Black Arm Band is one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies. Critics hail the organization’s performers from among Australia’s foremost indigenous artists.

Black Arm Band was formed in 2006 to develop, perform, promote, educate and celebrate contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music and cultures – or as they state as their mission: “to celebrate the past & revolutionize the future of indigenous Australia through music.”

The group has performed to well over one million people throughout Australia and across the globe. The company draws its inspirations from its relationship with indigenous communities throughout the region, including the Torres Strait Islands (considered part of Queensland, Australia and located between mainland Australia and New Guinea).

Tickets are $35 (plus applicable fees). MACC members receive a 10% discount. For tickets, call the MACC Box Office at 242-SHOW or visit MauiArts.org.
