DHHL to Award 22 Vacant Lots to Beneficiaries on Kauaʻi

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will be awarding 22 vacant lots to beneficiaries in the Piʻilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision of Anahola on the island of Kauaʻi.

The Lot Award ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at King Kaumualiʻi Elementary School Cafeteria, with check-in at 9:30 a.m. and lot awards to begin at 10 a.m.

“The vacant lot award process marks a step in the right direction to fulfill our mission of returning beneficiaries to the lands,” said Jobie M. K. Masagatani, Chair of the Hawaiian Homes Commission and Director of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

The lot awards in the Piʻilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision of Anahola come closely on the heels of an additional 31 lots being awarded in the Waimanalo homestead of Kakaʻina late last year. The revitalization of the vacant lot program is the department’s direct response to beneficiary requests for additional options to meet their individual family needs as well as their financial capabilities.

The department broke ground on the Piʻilani Mai Ke Kai residential project in Anahola, Kauaʻi in August 2006. At its inception, this 71 acre DHHL subdivision development offered 181 homestead lots with a minimum size of 10,000 square feet. The 22 lots being awarded are the last available vacant lots in Phase I of the Piʻilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision with another 51 vacant lots set to be awarded in Phase II later this year.
