More than 500 Maui residents and visitors spent the day up close and personal with TV celebrity and world-renowned health expert Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Speaking to a live audience from the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center’s Center Stage, Dr. Oz shared health tips and answered audience questions about diabetes, heart disease and more.

“One of the things I’ve learned is that if we want to make widespread change, we have to teach lifestyles that make it easy for people to do the right thing,” said Dr. Oz. “Here on Maui, you folks are leading by example. Not only are you already living in the healthiest state in the nation, you’re working with Blue Zones Project to make lasting changes and better communities for your children and grandchildren.”

The mall event was organized by HMSA and Sharecare, a leader in health and technology. The two companies are working together to bring innovative, high-tech health solutions to Maui and the rest of the state.

“When you take an active role in your health and well-being, you’re going to feel better and live healthier,” said HMSA Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Gold. “It can be tough to do in today’s busy world, but Sharecare’s technology makes it easy to connect you to the health care resources you need. And with the new mobile platform we’re working together to bring to Hawaii very soon, engaging in your health will be as easy as tapping on a screen.”
