Mr. Mayor,

Q: When will the Ha‘ikū Road culvert project be completed and why is it taking so long?

A: The most recent estimated completion date is this May, due to numerous rain delays. You’ve probably noticed that the Ha‘ikū area has received a lot of rain these past few months, in addition to East Maui Irrigation releasing water into the drainage way, both of which cause unworkable conditions for the contractor to finish pouring the concrete outlet in the drainage way.

However, the work in the drainage way is nearing completion. The contractor will also be moving uphill soon to work on the roadway and slope improvements.
