New Maui Digital Zoning Maps to Correct Old Errors
The first of four public meetings to discuss the county’s new Digital Zoning Maps takes place tonight in Kīhei.
The County Department of Planning is replacing paper zoning maps with more accurate and current digital maps as they work to correct inconsistencies and errors.
Approximately 830 property owners are receiving postcards from the Department of Planning to inform them that their properties may be affected. Department officials say the proposed changes will correct old errors.
The public is invited to attend and offer testimony at the upcoming meetings. Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Kīhei Community Center.
Additional meetings are planned at the following locations, all beginning at 5:30 p.m.:
• WAILUKU: Tuesday, March 28 — Velma Santos Community Center, 395 Waena Place
• LAHAINA: Tuesday, April 4 — West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St.
• PUKALANI: Wednesday, April 12 — Hannibal Tavares Community Center, 91 Pukalani St.
The new map for the island of Maui will be reviewed by the Maui Planning Commission later this year, and then by the County Council before it is adopted.
