Maui Island Under Brown Water Advisory
The state of Hawaii, Department of Health, Clean Water Branch issued a Brown Water Advisory for the Island of Maui today following heavy rains over the weekend.
The department advises that the public should stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff “due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.”
Not all waters may be affected; however, if the water is brown the public is advised to stay out and continue to practice good personal hygiene. Individuals with health concerns should follow up with their primary care physician.
