California Woman Medevaced After Rescue at Honolua Bay

Emergency personnel in West Maui responded to Honolua Bay for an unresponsive female that was pulled from the ocean at around 12:21 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017.

Firefighters from Nāpili arrived at 12:29 p.m. to find bystanders performing CPR on a female victim near the water’s edge. Firefighters continued CPR until paramedics arrived to provide advanced life-saving measures.

The female victim eventually regained a pulse, and paramedics rushed her to the Nāpili Ball Park where a helicopter medevac was standing by.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman from California was flown to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Fire officials say the woman was snorkeling at the popular snorkel spot with family members when other snorkelers found the victim floating unresponsive and pulled the woman to shore.

Firefighters from Nāpili and Lahaina, along with ocean safety lifeguards from D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua responded to the incident.
