Maui Health System Announces Leadership Team
Maui Health System announced members of its leadership team ahead of Saturday’s transfer of three Maui hospitals from state-run management to management under the Kaiser Permanente affiliate.
Maui Health System representatives say these leaders “represent a balance of local expertise and deep hospital experience” and will lead Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital, and Lānaʻi Community Hospital under the new structure.
“These leaders have demonstrated tremendous expertise, passion, energy, and focus through the transition process,” said Ray Hahn, hospital administrator. “I look forward to working together to provide high-quality care and service to all patients in our community.”
The Maui Health System leadership team includes: Ray Hahn, Hospital Administrator; Brian Coogan, Director of Information Technology; Paul Harper-O’Connor, RN, Assistant Administrator for Quality, Safety and Performance; Traci Ing, Chief Administrative Officer; Tamara Koller, Director of Compliance Operations; Jacqueline “Jackie” Levy, RN, Assistant Administrator for Clinical Services; Joyce Tamori, Chief Financial Officer; and Gary Kienbaum, RN, Chief Nursing Executive.
Ray Hahn, Hospital Administrator: Hahn is a senior leader with more than a decade of healthcare experience. Most recently, he served as the interim hospital administrator for Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center on Oahu, overseeing all operations for the 295-licensed bed hospital and clinic. Prior to that, Hahn was chief operating officer of the Kaiser Permanente Fontana and Ontario Medical Centers in California, where he was responsible for the operations of two major hospitals.
Brian Coogan, Director of Information Technology: Coogan, an information technology professional and a certified industry specialist, has been named director of information technology. He most recently served as the manager of informatics at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He is an integral part of the transition team, overseeing information technology during the transfer to Maui Health System.
Paul Harper-O’Connor, RN, Assistant Administrator for Quality, Safety and Performance: As assistant administrator for quality, safety and performance, Harper-O’Connor will oversee patient safety, quality, accreditation, licensing, risk, care experience, medical staff services and performance improvement for Maui Health System. He has served as the quality and continuous improvement officer for Maui Memorial Medical Center for the past 12 years.
Traci Ing, Chief Administrative Officer: Ing will oversee administrative functions for Maui Health System. Born and raised on Maui, she has worked for Maui Memorial Medical Center for nearly 15 years and most recently served as chief operating officer. Her knowledge of Maui Memorial Medical Center and her leadership within the community are highly valued within the team.
Tamara Koller, Director of Compliance Operations: Koller will oversee compliance and privacy matters and serve as the interim security officer; and the civil rights coordinator for Maui Health System. She has more than 30 years of experience in regulatory compliance and has been at Maui Memorial Medical Center since 2005, most recently serving as regional compliance and privacy officer.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Levy, RN, Assistant Administrator for Clinical Services: Levy will oversee clinical services for Maui Health System. A nurse for 42 years, Levy has a combination of hospital operations and ambulatory care experience. A Maui resident for two years, she joins Maui Health System after spending seven years as director of emergency services at Kaiser Permanente’s San Diego Medical Center.
Joyce Tamori, Chief Financial Officer: As chief financial officer, Tamori will provide financial oversight for Maui Health System. Born and raised on Maui, she most recently served as Maui Memorial Medical Center’s chief financial officer. Prior to that, she was CFO of Hale Makua Health Services for 14 years and has a proven track record of strategic, tactical, and operational leadership specializing in healthcare.
Gary Kienbaum, RN, Chief Nursing Executive: Kienbaum will oversee the nursing department and day-to-day patient care. He joins the Maui Health System team with 37 years of nursing experience including 15 years with Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi, most recently serving as the interim chief nurse executive at Moanalua Medical Center.
