Rep. Gabbard Speaks at USS Hopper Change of Command
Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard spoke at the change of command ceremony aboard the USS Hopper, where Commander Jeff Tamulevich assumed command from Commander JD Gainey.
The congresswoman thanked Commander Gainey for his service in command during on a 180-day deployment to the Arabian Gulf, western Pacific, and Indian Ocean that concluded in February. The ship is scheduled to deploy again in three weeks out of Pearl Harbor.
Later in the morning, the congresswoman spoke at the 2017 Veterans Stand Down, a community service event for homeless veterans and their families. The annual event helps veterans access VA Health Care and VA Benefit experts along with community agencies that provide one-stop services to ensure coordinated care; offering tools and support to Veterans and their families seeking to stabilize their housing situation.
Veterans are also able to speak with subject matter experts from the Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care System, VA Regional Benefits Office and community agencies, along with service providers for housing, health care, health/wellness, financial benefits, clothing, haircuts, and more.
In the afternoon, the congresswoman visited with local small business owners in Waialua and hosted a pop-up “Congress On Your Corner” at the Waialua Shopping Center, where local residents stopped by to talk story and get assistance with federal agency casework. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and her team host regular constituent service meetings all across the state.
Earlier in the week, Rep. Gabbard was on Maui where she met with stakeholders to discuss erosion along the Honoapiʻilani Highway, held a roundtable discussion on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program and met with business owners in Wailuku.
