Wind Advisory Issued for Maui, Kaho‘olawe, Lānaʻi

UPDATE 3:38 p.m.: The Wind Advisory is now in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

The National Weather Service says the strongest winds are expected to occur over higher terrain and where winds blow downslope.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Maui, Kaho‘olawe and Lānaʻi, in effect until 6 p.m. this evening.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected.

A very strong high north of the area will produce strong trade winds today. Winds are expected to subside quickly tonight.

Expect northeast to east winds of 30 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

Winds this strong can cause power outages, make driving difficult and swing doors open and shut forcefully.

For Haleakala Summit, expect northeast to east winds to 45 to 55 mph with gusts to 65 mph.

Winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Use extra caution when driving and be careful opening and closing vehicle doors.

Use caution using sensitive electronic equipment.
