Kane is one of four candidates seeking election to the seat formerly held by long-time legislator Joe Souki. Others include: Troy Hashimoto who was selected to fill Souki’s current remaining term (and former executive assistant to Maui Councilmember Mike White); (teacher and HSTA vice president), Justin Hughey; and Mary Wagner (a business continuity plan manager with the County of Maui).

Since all contenders are Democrats, the race will be decided in the primary.
