Dain Kane, candidate for the District 8 State House seat, has announced the receipt of a series of union endorsements.

Endorsements include: the State of Hawaiʻi Organization of Police Officers; Hawaiʻi Firefighters Association; Hawaiʻi Regional Council of Carpenters; International Union of Operating Engineers – Local 3; and Hawaiʻi Operating Engineers Industry Stabilization Fund.

Kane’s is seeking election to the district that includes representation of Kahakuloa, Waiheʻe, Waiehu, Puʻuohala, Wailuku and Waikapū.

Kane is one of four candidates seeking election to the seat formerly held by long-time legislator Joe Souki. Others include: Troy Hashimoto who was selected to fill Souki’s current remaining term (and former executive assistant to Maui Councilmember Mike White); (teacher and HSTA vice president), Justin Hughey; and Mary Wagner (a business continuity plan manager with the County of Maui).

Since all contenders are Democrats, the race will be decided in the primary.
