Hawaiʻi Safeway Customer Wins $1,000,000 Playing Monopoly
A Hawaiʻi customer is the winner of a $1 million prize in the Safeway Albertsons Companies Monopoly Collect & Win Game.
Tiana M. who shops at the Kapahulu Safeway store on Oʻahu won the prize after entering dozens of online codes from her collected game tickets. One of those codes was randomly selected in a Last Chance drawing and earned her the top prize.
The Hawaiʻi prize was awarded during a ceremony at the Kapahulu Avenue Safeway store on Sunday.
“Customers across the country have won more than $110 million in prizes and discount offers during this year’s MONOPOLY Shop, Play, Win!® game,” said Brad Street, President of the Northern California Division. “This is the second million-dollar prize winner this year and we are excited that one of our loyal Hawaiʻi customers has won this guaranteed prize. The first $1 million cash prize winner of the MONOPOLY Shop, Play, Win! game was in Idaho Falls, Idaho earlier this year.”
The MONOPOLY Shop, Play, Win! game could be played from Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 until Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
“When the MONOPOLY game begins in February, excitement among customers and our employees for this day builds for the entire Safeway team,” said George Glukfeld, Hawaiʻi District Manager. “This million-dollar prize could have been awarded anywhere in the country and we are thrilled to present the check to one of our local customers on Oʻahu.”
A highlight of this year’s Collect & Win Game was an online game where customers could scan a code provided in certain MONOPOLY game tickets for the additional chance to win cash, gift cards and discount offers. To ensure there were two $1 million winners, all valid code entries collected during the game were eligible for a random, last chance drawing, if necessary. By shopping at her local Safeway store, Tiana collected and entered a number of online codes to win this prize.
