Woman Rescued After Falling Off Trail on Moloka’i
A 59-year-old Molokaʻi woman sustained multiple injuries after falling from a trail near the Kalaupapa lookout on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2018.
The incident was reported at around 1:50 p.m.
Fire crews found the woman approximately 150 feet down a steep incline at the Palaʻau State Park, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.
Friends of the missing woman called authorities when they located the woman’s vehicle and dog near the lookout, but could not find the woman.
The dog reportedly led rescuers directly to the location on the trail where the victim was found.
The woman was unable to move or respond to verbal communications. Fire crews used a rope rescue system to bring the victim back up to the trail where Medics took over care. She was transported to Moloka’i General Hospital “alert and well oriented.”
Engine 9 out of Hoʻolehua and Engine 4 from Kaunakakai responded.
