A second individual who was pulled unresponsive from South Maui waters during an incident at Keawakapu Beach on Thursday has since died.

Police say the woman was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.

The woman was one of two individuals pulled unresponsive from nearshore waters at around 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018. The male individual died at the scene.

Although initial reports indicated that both individuals were in their 20’s, Maui police released information today saying the man was 40-years-old and the female was 37-year-old. Police say both appear to have been visitors from the Republic of Korea.

The release of their names is pending notification of next of kin.
