Tahiti Pro Competition Back ON for Round 2
The Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o has been called back ON this morning with Heat 4 of Round 3 in clean 4-6 foot waves.
Hawaii surfers still in the running include Keanu Asing who faces Brazil’s Michael Rodrigues in Heat 8; and Sebastian Zeitz who’s up against Brazil’s Jesse Mendes in Heat 11.
“Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner said, “We’ll be making the most of what’s on offer today finishing Round 2 and potentially commencing Round 3.”
Event No. 7 on the 2018 WSL Championship Tour, the Tahiti Pro at Teahupo’o, saw the surprise elimination of defending event winner and current WSL No. 2 Julian Wilson of Australia at the hands of local wildcard Tikanui Smith French Polynesia in Sunday’s Round 2. Both the WSL Title race and the battle for 2019 re-qualification is on the line in the South Pacific.
Up first this morning is Mikey Wright of Australia, up against Miguel Pupo of Brazil in Heat 4 of Round 2.
According to Surfline, the official forecaster for the Tahiti Pro, conditions call for a shorter period SSW to South swell and overhead waves. Favorable conditions are expected to fade Tuesday into mid-week. Surfline is forecasting modest to potentially fun size SW swells on the radar for rest of event window.
The Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o action will be broadcast LIVE by the World Surf League.
