Structure Fire at Valley Isle Fitness Results in $350K Damage

A fire at Valley Isle Fitness in Kāʻanapli on Wednesday night resulted in an estimated $350,000 in damage.

Maui fire crews responded to the working structure located at 2850 Kekaʻa Drive at around 6:31 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018.

The fire was reported by an employee who had discovered the fire on the lower level of a two-story unit.  Maui fire officials say the employee alerted fellow workers and patrons on both levels and called 9-1-1.

All individuals within, escaped unharmed according to department reports.

Crews arrived on scene to find heavy black smoke coming from the building.  Firefighters made entry and were able to extinguish the fire.

Engine 3 and Ladder 3 from Lahaina, Engine 11 from Nāpili and a Battalion Chief responded to the incident along with crews from Wailea and Kahului.

A fire investigator has classified the cause of the fire to be undetermined.
