Maui Flood Warning

..THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE ISLAND OF MAUI IN MAUI COUNTY WILL
EXPIRE AT 215 AM HST…
Weather radar and rain gages showed that heavy rain has eased. There remain road closures along portions of Hana highway, and along Piilani Highway near Kaupo. Additional heavy rainfall may develop later this morning as Tropical Storm Lane lingers southwest of Maui, and a Flash Flood Watch remains posted.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for…
The island of Maui in Maui County
* Until 215 AM HST.
* At 1105 PM HST, radar indicated that heavy rain had eased over the
island of Maui, but stream gages shows elevated water levels, and
flooding impacts are still occurring. Road closures continue on
portions of the Hana Highway, and on Piilani Highway near Kaupo.
Additional heavy is likely to develop.

Kahului, Honokohau, Kahakuloa, Haliimaile, Paia, Makawao, Wailuku,
Waihee, Kaanapali, Kula, Pukalani and Napili-Honokowai.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring in
streams, roads, and low lying areas. Move to higher ground now.
Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn
around, don’t drown.
FLOOD ADVISORY FOR LANAI UNTIL MIDNIGHT
The National Weather Service has ISSUED a FLOOD ADVISORY for LANAI in effect until 12 midnight.
A flood advisory means that nuisance flooding is occurring or eminent. A Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.
This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
EFFECTS: At 9 p.m. HST, radar indicated moderate to heavy rain over all of Lanai. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are leading to localized nuisance flooding.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to the entire island of Lanai.
FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MOLOKAI UNTIL MIDNIGHT:
The National Weather Service has ISSUED a FLOOD ADVISORY for MOLOKAI in effect until midnight.
A Flood Advisory means that nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent. A Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.
This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.
EFFECTS: At 9:05 p.m., radar indicated moderate to heavy rain over all of Molokai. Rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour are leading to localized nuisance flooding.
This advisory is for the entire island of Molokai.

Maui is under a Flash Flood Warning until 8:15 p.m.
At 5:13 p.m. HST, radar indicated heavy rain continuing over the slopes of Haleakala. Heavy rain has also spread westward into the West Maui Mountains. Rain rates were 1 to 3 inches per hour. Maui emergency managers reported Hanā Highway remains closed near mile marker 20, and Piʻilani Highway remains closed at mile marker 37 near Kaupō.
Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Kahului, Honokōhau, Kahakuloa, Hāliʻimaile, Pāʻia, Makawao, Wailuku, Waiheʻe, Kāʻanapali, Kula, Keʻanae, Nāhiku, and Pukalani.

2:30 p.m. 8.24.18: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui in Maui County until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.
At 2:06 p.m. HST, radar showed persistent localized rainfall along the south facing slope of Haleakala. Maui County Emergency Management reported that Piilani Highway is closed near Kaupo.
Other low water crossings will be at risk for flooding from mile marker 30 to Kalepa Gulch.
Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Kaupo, Kipahulu and Keokea.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 500 PM HST if heavy rain persists.
