Maui E-Cycling Issues Closure Schedule

E-Cycling, the county-sponsored electronics recycling program, will temporarily suspend operations at Maui’s yard in Wailuku from Nov. 1 to 24, 2018, due to a change in facility management, according to the county’s Environmental Protection & Sustainability Division.

Maui’s E-Cycling yard, which accepts computers, monitors, printers and TVs, is located at 901 Lower Main St. in Wailuku.

Also, the yard will also be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 4 due to the holidays. It will be open for an extra holiday cleanup day from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7.

Other e-waste collection events will continue as scheduled, including one from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1 through 3 at Hāna Landfill; and the Lahaina Go Green Recycle Third Saturday event from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 at Lahaina Cannery Mall parking lot.

Moloka‘i E-Cycling, which was closed in September due to e-waste market changes, will reopen Jan. 2.

E-Cycling is the only program in Maui County licensed by the EPA to accept electronics, specifically TVs, computers, printers and monitors, for recycling. Other types of electronics cannot be accepted at the E-cycling locations. Hammerhead Metals Recycling in Kahului accepts microwaves for recycling at no charge to residents. Residents are advised to put small electronics that cannot be recycled in refuse carts. Larger items can be taken to the landfill. Businesses are advised to call the hotline to schedule large loads.

Dumping electronics anywhere, roadsides or old cane fields is illegal and may create a health hazard.
