Holiday Lobby Open Houses at Maui, Kula and Lāna‘i Hospitals

Maui Health System rings in the holidays with three Lobby Open Houses filled with music, tree lights, crafts and cookies.

The three hospitals in the system – Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lānaʻi Community Hospital – will open their lobby doors for visits the first week of December with healthy holiday special themes of Island Heart, ʻOhana and Giving.

“We invite our island community to join us in celebrating our first full year as Maui Health System and want to share our new lobby renovations at Maui Memorial,” said Michael Rembis, CEO of Maui Health System. “Maui Memorial Medical Center treats an average of 165 patients daily and 54,500 emergency visits per year that enter through our doors, and on Dec. 4, we welcome you for another reason. Come and get to know your hospital and those that serve our community.

“Kula Hospital residents can look forward to the holiday with the community donating gifts from the lobby Giving Tree, and we’ll be available for talk story and tours of the renovations at Lānaʻi Community Hospital where our new Lānaʻi and Kula hospitals administrator Kerry Pitcher who has been engaged in the communities there.”

Maui Memorial Medical Center – Island Heart

Enjoy the Maui Memorial Medical Center Open House island-style with a photo with Santa near the 15-foot holiday tree in the lobby atrium amid holiday garland, lights and décor. Local entertainers will play holiday tunes on a new grand piano donated by the hospital Auxiliary. Valet parking is complimentary at the hospital entrance.

The MMMC Open House schedule is as follows:

4 to 7 p.m.: Photos with Santa, Musical Performances, Refreshments, Keiki Crafts and

Blood Pressure Checks:

5:30 p.m.: Mike Rembis, CEO, Welcomes Guests
5:45 p.m.: Punana Leo o Maui Preschool Performance
7 p.m.: Evening Concludes

Care and comfort are the cornerstones of the award-winning Maui Memorial Medical Center, and a number of departments have adopted holiday ʻohana through Maui Family Support Services. The employees will meet with these families throughout the month to distribute gifts in the lobby and offer aloha to their families. “It’s a touching tradition started by our Obstetrics nursing department last year, and we want to continue to reach out and touch the hearts of people and families in our community that may not receive a holiday gift otherwise,” said Rembis.

“We’ll be offering free blood pressure checks to our community during the Maui Memorial Medical Center Open House. In 2018 we celebrate receiving two highly-distinguished Get with the Guidelines Gold-Plus quality achievement awards from American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, the only hospital in the state to receive both awards.” The awards recognize Maui Memorial Medical Center’s commitment and success in implementing a high standard of heart failure and stroke care by ensuring that these patients receive treatment that meets nationally accepted, evidence-based standards and recommendations.

Kula Hospital – Giving Tree

Visit Kula Hospital for cookies, coffee and hot cocoa daily Dec. 3-7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the front lobby. The Kula Hospital Auxiliary invites the community to become an angel and select one or more of the 78 residents from the Giving Tree. The community may purchase a resident-requested gift, wrap it and deliver the gift back to the hospital to be given to the resident on Christmas morning by hospital administrator Kerry Pitcher and the staff.

Lānaʻi Community Hospital – ʻOhana Lānaʻi

Cookies, coffee and hot cocoa are available in Lānaʻi Community Hospital’s renovated lobby daily Dec. 4, 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The hospital ʻohana will be available for questions or a tour. On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, staff will distribute donated gifts to the residents. Gifts are made possible by the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
